26 February Troon Breakfast Run
Well, February weather can be a little unpredictable for car runs, but we were blessed with a sunny day and lots of members and cars.

Twenty-three members and 14 cars made the trip. As usual, I was well prepared with a route map and instructions not to get lost but, as leader, managed to take the wrong turn within about five minutes of leaving the car park. I blame my co-pilot Sean Grant. Anyway, we ended up split into two groups but eventually managed to meet up the other side of East Kilbride for a spirited run through Strathaven and down towards Ayr before finally arriving at Highgrove House for some breakfast. Thanks to all that came along - it was lovely to see some new faces and so many Porsches make it.

Till next time,

Scott

FUTURE EVENTS

Sunday 18 June BVAC Thirlestane Classic
I have provisionally reserved 25 places for this year’s BVAC show - please reserve your place on the Club website before 28 April. The cost of entry is £10 per vehicle. Set in the beautiful grounds of Thirlestane Castle, in the Scottish Borders, the BVAC Classic is Scotland’s premier classic car show for all the family. It combines over 1,000 wonderful classic and vintage cars with fabulous Scottish food, drink, retail and displays, making it a wonderful day out for the whole family.

We are always trying to have different types of events during the year and Bob Rabagliati kindly offered to arrange a treasure hunt in July.

Sunday 16 July Charity car treasure hunt
This touring event is primarily a fundraiser for the R1 group’s adopted charity for 2023, the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. It offers an appealing 120-mile tour of some of the most interesting roads in South Lanarkshire, Dumfries and Galloway and East Ayrshire.

The treasure hunt competition is not a race, but it will test your awareness, observation and recognition skills by answering clues and gathering points at four specified locations along the route. You will benefit from having a passenger (or passengers), both as a navigator and second pair of eyes, although it can be completed solo. Prizes will be awarded for the first three highest points scorers.

The start point for registration and departures is the Dakota Hotel, Eurocentral meeting from 10am. The finish point is the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice.

Intrigued? Then sign up today. It will be a lot of fun and just a little different from a routine run out in your Porsche. The cost will be £20pp, all of which will go to the Hospice, and includes your event entry, an afternoon BBQ provided by the excellent Hospice cafe and a donation to this worthy cause and wonderful facility. Please book and pay in advance on the Club website by Monday 3 July.
