26 April 2020

Postponed - National Drive it Day with R2

National Drive it Day was an idea started by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs back in 2005 - it's date chosen to coincide with a famous 1000-mile car run that took place on the last weekend of April in the year 1900, where 84 cars attempted to drive from London to Edinburgh and back.

In recent years, Drive it Day usually coincides neatly around the time most cars that have been in storage over winter go back on the roads. Lots of car enthusiats and clubs head out on Drive it Day and it's likely that you would cross paths with all sorts of interesting cars if you're out on the road.

To celebrate national drive it day on the 26th of April 2020, R2 will have a run that takes in some of the best roads in the UK.
In keeping with the spirit of adventure with other car enthusiats, we'll be joined on this run by PACE car group, set up by R2 member Allan Jones, as well as the Scotland Area of the Ferrari Owners Club of Great Britain.

The start point of the run is the majestic grounds of Glamis Castle - meeting from 0930, the cafe will be open and have agreed a deal of a Morning Roll, plus a Tea or Coffee, for £5. There will be an opportunity for a group Photo in front of the castle at 1015.

The castle have agreed to waive the usual £2 per car parking fee, if you mention you're on the Porsche Club run when you arrive at the gates.

Setting off at 1030, our route for the day will take us up to Kirriemuir and along past Alyth to Blairgowrie. Turning North, we'll take the A93 up over Glenshee, dropping down the other side and following the sweeping curves of the river and into Braemar.

We'll continue along the A93 to ballater, where we have a lunch booked at the Auld Kirk Coffee Lounge, at 1pm. They have agreed a fixed price Afternoon Tea for us.

After lunch, you can head home whichever way suits. Those of us heading south are planning to head down and over Cairn-O-Mount and back to Angus.
