Prostate Cancer UK Fundraiser with Ian Hollis

Ian Hollis hosts a Prostate Cancer UK awareness, fundraising, and thank-you event at The Three Greyhounds.

On 22nd March popular R5 member Ian Hollis organised and hosted a Prostate Cancer UK awareness and fundraising event at The Three Greyhounds near Knutsford.

Ian was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer himself in 2022 and, despite continuing to undergo treatment, has been taking part in the Prostate Cancer UK’s March the Month walking challenge event.

Despite the relatively short notice of the event, our usual room at the pub was packed with people enjoying an evening of chat, food and refreshments.

Whilst many of the attendees were PCGB R5 members, it was also nice to see a number of other enthusiasts from Ian’s own Beartown Porkers group, a Congleton based ‘drive and dine’ Porsche drivers club originally founded between lockdowns as part of the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ initiative. The rest of attendees were some of Ian's friends, some of whom had travelled from as far as Clitheroe to show their support.

As well as giving out Prostate Cancer UK T-shirts and 'Man of Men' lapel pins, Ian handed out ‘Know Your Prostate’ pamphlets to everyone and urged all to get a simple PSA blood test, as catching any adverse signs early is the best way of avoiding more serious consequences.

Ian smashed his challenge, completing his March the Month 341,000 steps with a week of the month to go, but is continuing to walk and fundraise for this vitally important cause. He is also running a very impressive sixth in the UK for fundraising for this event and features on the charities website.

Some words from Ian:

Although fundraising was the primary purpose for Prostate Cancer UK, just as important was the opportunity to chat to everyone about the prevalence and damage this disease causes. 1 in 8 of all men will be affected. So many people in the room on Wednesday either had personal experience of getting it, or knew directly of family members or friends who had contracted it, some with the worst outcome. I urge everyone to check their risk and get a PSA blood test. See the Prostate Cancer UK website for more details.

I’d like to give a huge thankyou to Tim Bird, owner of The Three Greyhounds, who facilitated, did front of house, and sponsored the event financially too.

I’d also like to thank the PCGB R5 committee for promoting the event, as many hundreds of pounds were raised this way. Through research a cure will come.

Huge thanks to all that supported the evening.

Well done Ian! Many thanks to those R5 members that have contributed so far and donations to Ian's fundraising page are still welcome at...
