Region 5’s Highlight Event of the Year was again hosted by MSV at their Oulton Park Circuit over the August Bank Holiday weekend – the HSCC Gold Cup. MSV did a great job this year in getting out the tickets to everyone, with only a couple of hiccups which we overcame, and Porsche Centre Wilmslow did us proud once again by providing the Porsche Exhibition Stand along with a display of new cars.
This year, we had a total of 99 applications for tickets from Members – including both neighbouring and a far-flung Regions, and even a last minute application on the Sunday for tickets on the Monday, which we were able to accommodate by a few deft manoeuvres. Our best attended day was Sunday, with 67 cars; it’s just a shame that the weather didn’t hold for us on Monday, which we’re sure would have made a huge difference to the turnout of 54 cars.
However, overall we have improved the popularity of this year’s event, with all the numbers showing increases on last year; we also had good support from the Club’s “management” – both our Regional Director and Register Director were there, but it was unfortunate that at the eleventh hour our Chairman was unable to make it, much to his disappointment.
From the feedback we have had from Members already, a good time was had by all who attended, so from our perspective all the hard work by the Committee in planning and organising the event was made worthwhile. It must be said that great support was given on the Friday, with lots of help in the setting up – we even had Members travel from Region 6 and region 18 to assist – so a big thank you to all the hands on the pumps for that, and to everyone who helped with the even quicker take down on the Monday afternoon.
Thanks must be given also: to all the Members who turned up with their cars over the several days of the event – with your support only, all our events are turned into successes; to MSV, who enabled the whole Gold Cup and the ticketing; to Porsche Centre Wilmslow, who sponsored the Porsche Exhibition Stand and provided the Porsche cars displayed around it; and finally, to Mark Clowes and Oliver Peoples, for Judging the Concours – some of which was in the rain !
We anticipate that the Gold Cup will remain our Highlight Event for next year, when we hope we can look forward to breaking through the 100 car ceiling – thank you once again to one and all who participated in whatever way, both on behalf of the Porsche Club GB and on behalf of Region 5.
