Karting at Three Sisters

Report on our alternative monthly club night at the Three Sisters Karting

On a lovely warm and sunny evening, R5 members arrived at the Three Sisters race circuit just outside of Wigan for the August Club Night. The circuit hosts a range of events (including championship karting), and R5 had arranged an exclusive karting race night for the seventeen members that had signed up to compete, with a few others coming along to support and cheer them on. And a competition it was; as a group of Porsche drivers, there was plenty of friendly rivalry from the outset, with lots of banter about power to weight ratios etc., where clearly some were going to have an advantage over others!

The race event split the members into two groups, with each group having a warm-up session of 5 minutes and then two 8 minute qualifying sessions. The competition was fierce, with some excellent overtaking manoeuvres (worthy of Lewis Hamilton) and one or two spectacular offs (worthy of Pastor Maldonado), including yours truly! The fastest from each group then progressed to a Group A and a Group B final, respectively, although by the end of the Group B final it was becoming dark, making it hard to tell who, if anyone, was ahead - well that was my excuse anyway!

After some good racing food, prizes were awarded to the top three in each final, with the overall winners being Seb Graham (Group A) and Gary Evans (Group B) - congratulations to both and to all those that took part. Many came away with aches and bruises, but with some great stories, proving what a hard fought, competitive and fun event it was. The feedback was excellent, so R5 will consider organising a similar event again next year.
