20th Manx Tour

As usual at this time of year, we had our annual visit from PCGB members, who were based at the Mount Murray Hotel where it all started 20 years ago. Yet again, it was a well-attended event organised by Geoff Ives, a stalwart of this tour. Friday night kicked off proceedings with a safety talk by ex-IOM police inspector Derek Flint.

Saturday’s morning dawn run was well attended, with a few local members joining in. After breakfast, the next venue was Porsche Centre Isle of Man, where Brand Manager Warren Beckwith greeted us and we viewed a couple of new 992s. Next stop was the Fynoderee distillery for a talk on how it was started. The sample gin must have been good as most seemed to leave with purchases.

The old brigade

Sunday morning’s run went well as the mist had thinned out. The rest of the day was spent exploring the island before dinner, with guest speaker Warren Beckwith, who gave us a little insight into his car background (his father Mike Beckwith raced with the likes of Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart and Graham Hill), up to the present day with his arrival at Porsche Isle of Man. Warren also kindly arranged the 992 as the centrepiece of the function room.

Time to let the cars cool down and a bit of a chat
