Classics at the Castle and more

July was deliberately kept fairly clear of events, mindful of holidays and the many members attending the Silverstone Classic and to allow planning time for our Annual Regional Show at Witton Castle. That said, we were still kept busy.

Steve Richardson’s 986 under scrutiny by the judges

R22 Regional Concours
Always happy to support other Regions, we travelled to Kendal to R22’s Regional Concours at Porsche Centre Kendal, which traditionally gives a warm welcome to PCGB members. Congratulations go to Steve Richardson on his third place in the Visitors’ Class with his beautifully turned out 986 and well done to Richard Bower on his first attempt at show and shine in an impressive line-up of 991.2 Carrera Ts.

Following R22 to Kirkby Stephen

The trip west gave us a great excuse to travel some fantastic driving roads. We met at Hexham before heading over Hartside summit and down the A6 to Kendal, with the journey home taking us over Teesdale’s moorland roads.

Andy’s tractor stole the show

Great North Classic Car Show
The following weekend was the Great North Classic Car Show. Several members had asked if we could arrange a stand here but the organisers, Aston Workshop, Car Barn and Beamish Morgan, asked if we could limit our cars to older models and we duly obliged. Star of the show was Andy’s Porsche tractor, with visitors flocked around it for most of the day. This well organised show in a scenic location earned a big thumbs up from those who attended. When members weren’t chatting to visitors, they had a chance to wander around various vehicles and the Morgan and Aston Workshops and Car Barn. It was great to see some Porsches in the Concours d’Elegance and some beautiful 911s in the auction.

Visitors parking at Classics at the Castle

Classics at the Castle
Fast forward to the next weekend of July and the Classics at the Castle Show at Witton Castle. This was the second time we’ve been invited. Durham Automobile Club’s ticketing system means you pay to exhibit your car but visitor entry is free. With only weeks to go until our own show at Witton, and not wanting to spend the whole day there, several members opted for a relaxed breakfast at Lanchester Garden Centre, before a convoy to the show, where we parked and browsed around the show cars before heading home to see England win the Cricket World Cup.
