Workshop open morning
Well, our event season is now in full swing, and looks set to be another jam-packed one for R3 members. Many of you were champing at the bit to get your cars out, judging by the numbers that turned up to our April events. First off was the Porsche Centre Teesside workshop open morning. Members jumped at the chance to have their cars inspected by skilled Porsche technicians. We’re always grateful for the free advice on routine and preventive maintenance of our cars and, of course, for the bacon rolls and cuppas.

Clear Away the Cobwebs Drive
It’s no coincidence the open morning was planned the day before our Clear Away the Cobwebs Drive. We planned it to hopefully eliminate any little niggles that our cars may have developed during their winter hibernation. Our morning started with breakfast and a drivers’ briefing at Beamish Hall. We split cars into groups to avoid congestion on the roads through the Northumberland countryside, and waved off more than 40 Porsches and their smiling occupants on their journey to Alnwick Treehouse Restaurant, where we met more members. After lunch, those who weren’t in a hurry to get home (and hadn’t fallen out with their navigators), regrouped in the car park to continue on the scenic coastal route to Seahouses and Bamburgh Castle. After a quick photo opportunity, we headed back inland past Chillingham Castle then south for home. I think it’s safe to say the cobwebs were well and truly cleared.

April Club night
Club night was the following week and Deb and I expected numbers to be down as the weekend had been so busy. However, 95 enthusiastic members turned out, sharing their positive feedback from the weekend. This is proof indeed that this Region continues to flourish and keeps going from strength to strength; a far cry from the dozen or so regulars that would turn out just a few years ago.

Officials’ Conference and AGM
This was held in mid-April. R3 committee member, David Carnaffin, was successful in his bid to fill Albert Walsh’s shoes as Register and Technical Director. I am sure many of you will be eager to join me in expressing our thanks to Albert for the support he showed R3 over the years and to wish Dave well in his challenging new role.

Malton run
Easter weekend saw an R3 convoy set off early for the run down to Malton in support of John Hawkins and his dedicated team at Specialist Cars of Malton, for their Big Breakfast event. John is a great supporter of PCGB and can often be found at various Club events. He has already pledged his support to R3 at our Regional show at Witton Castle again this year.

Thanks again for your continued help and support and welcome to our new members who joined us at events and Club night in April.
