Our first impromptu run of the season

Impromptu Winter Run 19th January 2020

With a cold, dry, sunny forecast, Paul & Steph initiated our very first impromptu drive of 2020. Sadly, their Boxster chose the most inconvenient moment to snap a front spring en route to the agreed rendezvous point at Kingston Park.
On hearing Paul’s plight, Charles kindly offered to take Paul on the drive, allowing him to navigate his chosen route from the passenger seat of the Cayman, as Steph reluctantly nursed their stricken Boxster home. Proof again (as if it ever in doubt) of the fantastic camaraderie we have in R3.
With a frosty start, some of the roads demanded concentration and extra respect at times but they were mostly traffic & motorcycle free, which is always an added bonus when driving the fabulous Hartside Pass.
For many it was the first time they had experienced Hartside devoid of the iconic café; not a trace that it was ever there. As we stood enjoying the views we were joined by another R3 member, heading home after an early start, having missed the pst on the Forum about the drive. We then jumped back into our cars, cranked up the heaters and continued on the short drive down Hartside to our agreed lunch stop in Melmerby.

As always drives like this are a great opportunity to meet up with other like-minded enthusiasts who, as a rule, don’t need asking twice to get out and enjoy driving their cars at any time of the year, so don't forget to keep an eye on the forum, if you would like to join in with a few during 2020. For those who prefer not to expose their cars to the horrors of winter road salt, there will hopefully be plenty similar drives in the summer months, and we’re always open to route suggestions.
