The first of two visits to Gibson Motorsport

Gibson Motorsport Visit 2nd March 2019

This early in the year we can never tell what the weather will do so we always err on the side of caution. Last year’s visit to local racing team Gibson Motorsport was oversubscribed, this year we were lucky enough to schedule two visits.
On each visit our members were greeted by Dan Gibson. He took us on a tour of the workshops and their fantastic array of race & road cars, from classics to a 918 Spyder and a McLaren Senna. Upstairs in their Racing Improvement Centre we had fun on the Scalextric scale model of Silverstone Circuit, competing to see who had the best car control, prior to enjoying a few laps on their state-of-the-art racing simulator. Dan had a surprise waiting for the first group; their mission was to try and set a respectable time on the challenging twisty Porsche Leipzig track. Needless to say, each of us thought we were amazing but realistically I don't think any of us will be getting a call back any time soon. Two weeks later when the second group put their racing skills to the test Dan was a bit fairer, with the more familiar Donington Track and a more forgiving car set up.
Gibson Motorsport was created in the 1970s when owner Paul Gibson started racing and modifying cars. Since then the team has expanded somewhat, with a purpose-built HQ, complete with improvement centre and workshop. More recently, the team has turned its hand to racing historic cars such as the Cobra Daytona and Lola T70 and has over 300 wins and 500 podiums to its credit.
Each day was proudly rounded off with a short presentation on their Gibson Shield product. Paul told us how, as racing drivers, engineers and car enthusiasts, they know the importance of car protection and presentation. They understand how painstaking and costly detailing can be and the frustration of a product not meeting expectations. Gibson Shield was born out of this frustration; they created their own nanotechnology-based ceramic coating, a coating they know they can rely on throughout their endurance races.
