A joint visit to the David Coulthard Museum with Cumbrian members and an F1 simulator challenge
David Coulthard Museum 26th August 2018 On August Bank Holiday weekend we joined Cumbrian members for a day out to Twynholm. After a morning coffee in Gretna Gateway we all headed to the David Coulthard Museum for a simulator challenge on Scotland’s only full scale, full motion Formula One simulator. While the competitiveness flowed on a wet lap of Spa-Francorchamps, the children in the group headed next door to the Cocoabean Company to take part in a chocolate workshop. After lunch in our own private marquee the winners were announced: 1st was David Chapman with the fastest lap time of 2:01.533, not quite on a par with the fastest lap of the day at the real Spa, Valtteri Bottas with a time of 1:46.286 but it’s good enough for us. 2nd was Colin Dey from Region 1 with a time of 2:06.215 and 3rd place was Scott Poole, also R3 with a time of 2:07.738. In true British Bank Holiday tradition it was a bit wet but it made the scenery on the drive there and back more dramatic, especially on our detour onto the Galloway Tourist Route (this one courtesy of Dumfries & Galloway Council, not any poor navigation skills) We rounded off the day with a celebratory tea and cake stop at Sally’s.
