Member's Car of the Month

This month's member's car belongs to Paul Steffen. Below in his own words, he tells us about his 996

My Porsche is a 2003 911/996.1 Carrera 2 Cabriolet - Arctic Silver with Metropol Blue hood and leather interior and has the optional interior Arctic Silver gear box tunnel shroud and white instrument dials.
I purchased the 996 in 2012 from Long Stratton Motor Company (after selling my 1982 Porsche 944 lux privately to a friend).

During our 22 years of PCGB Region 12 membership and 11 years of 996 we have enjoyed many PCGB Region 12 events and road trips and the 996 has always been reliable with very few mechanical issues.
The IMS bearing was changed in 2015 not due to necessity but for safety following many issues being reported on the 996 Forum.

In September 2022 I had the brake pipes renewed and during January 2023 I replaced the exhaust system with an after market one as it failed the MOT due to splitting in the exhaust boxes which could not be welded up as it was the original exhaust and had done really well to last 20 years With the price of a new Porsche original being almost twice the price of an aftermarket exhaust I chose the aftermarket one over the genuine one , but the Porsche Purists amongst us may have issues accepting my decision?

However I doubt anyone would notice as it looks an exact replica of the old one even the tail pipes match the old one.

The 996 is a four owner vehicle and has covered 104,000 miles and in my opinion still looks good although a little surface rust is starting to appear to the back of the front wheel arches but that  may well be a later 2024 project if I can still manage to get into the 996.
