We welcomed Albert Walsh, Motorsport Chairman, as our guest this evening. Albert had travelled 230 miles to be with us and joined us for a meal at the Bird in Hand prior to being introduced to a packed Club room by Stuart Mackay (our host for the evening), who did a sterling job.
Also making the journey to Norfolk was Steve Gillings and his wife Jane. Steve has been recently appointed by PCGB as the first point of contact for volunteers (Regions and Register Officials), to assist with communications and any problems that may arise.
Albert treated us to a slideshow of his life, (he was a very cute baby!) right through to the present day. His love of cars stemmed from an early age as his Dad was a mechanic and owned a garage – and would let the young Albert help him thereby giving him a taste of his future career! He started work at 15 in a body shop and progressed to working with many car companies throughout his working life, buying ‘bargains’ and restoring cars along the way. His first Porsche was a 924.
Albert also carries out pre-inspections of classic cars for the RAC and now has a new role as Motorsport Chairman. Motorsport run three championships yearly plus all the track Days that Albert told us sell out very quickly. We took a break at 9pm for teas and coffees while Stuart went through the list of future events and how to book etc.
Our thanks to Rosemary and Brian who had compiled a notice board of forthcoming car shows in Norfolk and Suffolk which members might be interested in attending, and to Ian Sadler who brought along his screen for Albert to use. A warm welcome to members Rob and Steve attending their first Club night – we hope they enjoyed the evening.
