Sandringham Car Show

Charity Day at Sandringham, combining with the BMW and Mercedes-Benz Clubs to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research.

Charity Day at Sandringham, combining with the BMW and Mercedes-Benz Clubs to raise funds for Prostate Cancer Research. We set our alarm clock for the ridiculous hour of 6.30am on a Sunday morning, loaded up the 968 with Gazebo, picnic table, raffles and munchies for the drive to Sandringham Visitors Centre. After Saturday’s weather we kept our fingers crossed for a dry day and to the obvious relief of the Organisers Sunday dawned fine and dry, although chilly. The BMW club had decided to make it a fun day, with a tombola plus a "Car of the Day" from each Club with everyone being given voting slips to vote for the other Club’s cars.

Once parked up, every Club Official gave a brief welcome speech and a member of Sandringham staff also came along to speak to everyone. Everyone then wandered off to do their own thing. Having lived in Norfolk all our lives, we had never visited the House, Gardens or Museum and decided this was the day to do it, especially as we were given a discounted entry on producing our Porsche membership cards. The rooms open to the Public and used by the Royal Family when in residence were beautiful and each room had a guide who were happy to explain how the rooms were used and answer our questions.

After a quick tour of the gift shop we all met up for the prize giving at 3.30pm. The votes had been counted and Tim Freeze won the Porsche of the Day with his stunning 1979 928, and we were then asked as Marshalls to vote for our favourite Porsche and we decided on Neil and Kay Thomas’s Cayman in Racing Yellow which really stood out in the line, and our thanks to them for bringing two cars.
