At our February Club night, we had over 60 members, including two new members, to listen to a presentation by Roger Smith on behalf of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, our chosen charity for 2021.
Roger explained how the medical staff had a four to six week induction on procedures involving the helicopters, which are kept at Earls Colne and North Weald. The helicopters are airborne within five minutes of receiving a call at Broomfield and paramedics at Broomfield Hospital determine whether to scramble a helicopter. The helicopter from North Weald generally covers the south of the county and part of Hertfordshire, whereas the Earls Colne helicopter effectively covers from Chelmsford northwards.
