Fortune favours the brave in Scotland

Wings and wheels made the perfect partnership for our Scottish national event

Airfields are by their very nature subject to strong winds, and the National Museum of Flight, on the former RAF station of “East Fortune” was certainly no exception!

Home to the first half of our Festival of Porsche in Scotland, Club members were greeted by a warm smile and a blustery breeze as they emerged from their Porsche after parking up on the former runway.

As well as being the UK’s best preserved Second World War airfield, the museum is home to Scotland’s only Concorde, and those who made it across the tarmac without being blown away were treated to a hearty hot breakfast before being given a private tour of “The Concorde Experience” before being left to marvel at the supersonic jet.

Members were able to take a trip back in time and immense themselves amongst some of the most amazing aircrafts and stories throughout the numerous military and civil aviation hangars, before heading out en masse to enjoy some of the stunning roads leading to Thirlestane Castle.

Dating back to the 16th century, Thirlestane Castle is one of the oldest and finest inhabited castles in Scotland. Every inch of the courtyard immediately in front of the imposing castle was filled with a stunning array of Porsches, expertly arranged and guided into place by volunteers.

We were joined by Club partners Pirelli with their F1 simulator, and live music filled the air before British Racing driver Mike Wilds gave a talk looking back at some of the highlights of his career. Porsche Centre Edinburgh were also in attendance with a great product display and offering members a chance to drive some of the latest Porsche models around the castle grounds.

Our next anniversary event will see us head over to Northern Ireland for our four-day Festival of Porsche. A full day of driving through the most spectacular driving roads, a visit to Kirkistown circuit and a trip to Hillsborough castle is just a glimpse of this weekends national event. Tickets are still available so book yours here.

We look forward to seeing you all at a Club event in the future. Our Festival of Porsche in Yorkshire is now less than two months away, so if you haven’t already done so, now is the perfect time to book your tickets.
