An update on the proposed Clubhouse move

The Chair provides an update on the strategic alliance with Bicester Heritage

At our AGM it was announced that we would be changing our approach to the proposed move to Bicester Heritage to a strategic alliance rather than a physical move. Although Club members voted decisively in favour of the move in an indicative poll following the EGM in January, there were many questions about the cost of the move and the mechanism of a leasing arrangement. Buying a freehold interest was simply not an option that was available.

The Ukraine invasion a month later started a global slowdown; inflation took off and the future suddenly looked very uncertain. Having a presence at Bicester remained a very attractive concept in the long-term interests of Club members; however after much thought it was decided not to proceed with the move to the new building but to seek an arrangement whereby the Club could access the excellent facilities there on a long-term basis in a way that is positive to both organisations at lower cost and risk. At this stage no commitments have been made and we are at an early stage of discussions.

We expect to build up a good working relationship and expand the scope of our activities for the benefit of all members. Meanwhile we are setting about improving the utility of Cornbury House and are, for instance, in the process, of installing a fibre-optic dedicated broadband link to improve communications and productivity.
