Driving the legendary Targa Florio

While Valerie, my better half, and I have taken many UK and international driving excursions, our European touring history began in earnest in 2014 with a trip to Monte Carlo, followed by an Italian Job-themed tour to Turin and then northern Spain. We have made some great friends during these holidays, and in 2018 a group of 12 couples decided to embark on a grand tour of Sicily and the Targa Florio circuit.

It would be a mix of driving, sightseeing and exploration to appreciate the true flavours of all destinations. We were driving our Guards Red 981 Boxster, a practical choice with good luggage capacity and touring ability.
 
Our journey from France to Italy took two days. The highlight was the twisting Col du Galibier, which had opened the night before we were due to cross after unseasonably late snowfall. The descent took us to the Col du Lautaret for a lunch stop, during which I noticed a lull in the traffic and decided to drive the pass again. The high-octane sprint gave the Boxster a good workout and me a grin worthy of a Cheshire cat.
