The great debate – 911 Turbo or GT3

Tackling the hottest topics from planet Porsche. This month we ask you...

Halo, halo, halo... When it comes to the model that defines the Porsche brand, is it the Turbo or the GT3?

TURBO TRIBE

Matt: I had a 911 Turbo on my wall as a kid, so that’s the one. Maybe if there had been a GT3 before I was 16, it would be a different matter!

Tony: I own a 996 Turbo X50 with a mild tune, so I’d say Turbo for the 4WD and easy driving.

Jim: I love all the 911 range and am happy to own a 997 twin-turbo.

Mark: Turbo for surefooted handling and sheer capability in all driving conditions. (But GT3 for the soundtrack.)

Andy: I had the choice of GT3 or Turbo S and went for a 997 Turbo S. I love it but still appreciate the GT3.

Pete: The acceleration of the Turbo S is insane. While the scream of the GT3 is intoxicating, if I could only have one, it would have to be the Turbo S every day of the week.

GENERATION GT3

David: GT3 all day long. The Turbo is fantastic but just too sterile.

Steve: It’s the GT3 all the way – for performance, looks and handling. The Turbo is all show.

Paul: Despite owning a 997 Turbo, which I think is amazing, I’d probably have to say the GT3. It just seems a bit more special.

Lee: My dream is to have a GT3 one day. The Turbo is just a blunt instrument, albeit a very fast one.

Albert: The GT3 every time – road legal and as near a track car as it can be. It looks gorgeous too!

Martin: The Turbo was the halo car in the 1970s and 1980s, then the GT3 was launched with the 996. From then on, the outright speed may have stayed with the Turbo but the driving experience and desirability is 100 per cent with the GT cars.

75%  / 25% split in favour of the GT3

What’s the verdict?
We had another pretty decisive vote this month, but the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Many GT3 fans had plenty of good things to say about the Turbo too. When it comes to a Porsche, what’s not to like?
