Peak performance in the new 911 Turbo S

Behind the wheel of the warp speed new 911 Turbo S, Matt Master endeavours to savour the moment

It’s a strange place we find ourselves in when what Porsche refers to as a series vehicle, an unlimited and universally available production model, generates 641bhp, posts a 0-62mph time of 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 205mph. All the more so when you learn that it costs £155,970. Big money on the one hand, but something of a steal considering the ticket price of performance equivalents from Ferrari and McLaren.

Since 1975, the 911 Turbo has been an essential part of Porsche’s portfolio, the flagship of each product cycle and the car that elevates the marque’s sports cars to supercar status. It’s the halo 911 against which all lesser versions are unfavourably compared, the car we all aspire to. Or at least, that’s the script.
