Remembering Piëch at the Classic Motor Show

Pinnacle of Porsche motorsport thunders into the NEC

The Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show returns to the NEC in Birmingham this November and the Club’s showpiece stand in Hall 1 once again promises to be a major draw for visitors.

This year, to commemorate the recent passing of Ferdinand Piëch, the Porsche Club stand will be themed around this highly influential member of the Porsche family and front and centre will be the popular Sunoco 917/30, kindly lent by Club member Peter Harburg.

The 917 was the apogee of Piëch’s sporting vision at Porsche and the 917/30 the ultimate evolution of this extraordinary programme. This car is chassis 005, Mark Donohue’s unused spare for the 1973 season and the basis for the last of just three 917/30s to be been built in Weissach.

Around this hugely important racer will be a carefully curated series of road cars, all supplied by members, which reflect some of Piëch’s preferences away from the race track. And our stand will, of course, be offering all the usual hospitality for members, including a rest area, complimentary coffee and the ever-popular pop-up shop.

The Classic Motor Show runs from 8 to 10 November and discounted tickets for PCGB members are available now to book online using our exclusive booking code. Our Club price is £25.50 for a single adult ticket on Saturdays and Sundays and £69 for a family ticket, admitting two adults and three children aged five to 15.
