Porsche out in force at Le Mans 2019

Works drivers fight to defend title at Le Mans

The 87th staging of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is almost upon us. The undisputed highlight of the international sportscar calendar, this year’s race is also the grand finale of the 2018/19 World Endurance Championship’s so-called ‘Super Season’, an 18-month epic designed to ensure that Le Mans will be the final throw of the dice from now on.

Porsche has entered four factory 911 RSRs into GTE-Pro, fielding its cars from both WEC and the IMSA Weathertech Sportscar Championship in the US. The two WEC cars will wear a commemorative livery that celebrates winning the manufacturer’s crown at Spa in the Spring, replacing the red element of its traditional Motorsport colour scheme with gold. Meanwhile the IMSA cars will again sport the Brumos stripes that were first seen at Daytona last January. Honorary Member Nick Tandy will once again be lining up alongside IMSA teammates Patrick Pilet and Earl Bamber.

There will be no fewer than six privateer 911 RSRs running in GTE-Am, with two cars fielded by 2018 class champions Dempsey-Proton racing. British WEC entry Gulf Racing will also return in its iconic blue and orange colours, driven by Michael Wainwright and Ben Barker alongside Le Mans rookie and Porsche Young Professional Thomas Preining.

The Club will be enjoying an even greater presence at the Circuit de la Sarthe this year, with our coveted campsite on the Porsche Curves now supported by unprecedented access to the excellent hospitality and central location of the Porsche Experience Centre.

Qualifying kicks off at 10pm local time tonight, with the race start at 3pm on Saturday. If you can’t be there, we’ll keep you posted on Porsche’s progress across the weekend on Instagram and Twitter @porscheclubgb @pcgb.
