Porsche in the spotlight at Goodwood

The Festival of Speed is upon us. Here’s what to expect from Porsche

The inimitable ‘FoS’ is back once again, running for four days from 4-7 July. The central theme for Porsche this year is lightweighting, with the little-seen 909 Bergspyder taking a well-deserved centre stage. The lightest racing car Porsche has built, the 909 weighed just 384kg and ran an air-cooled flat-eight derived from Porsche’s 804 Formula 1 car.

Goodwood will also help mark the 50th anniversary of the 917 once again, with no fewer than 12 of these special cars in attendance. In another nod to Porsche’s lightweight trope, the 908/03, the car that deputised for the 917 on the tighter handling circuits of the World Sportscar Championship, will also appear, alongside the unique 935 ‘Baby’ that utilised a tiny turbocharge 1.4-litre flat six to power Jacky Ickx to victory in Hockenheim in 1976. Rounding off the less-is-more thread, and in a coup for the Club, the recently revealed 981 Boxster Bergspyder will be making its UK debut at Goodwood on the PCGB stand.

Modern motorsport is as well represented as ever this year too, with the international debut of the new 911 RSR alongside the 911 GT3 R which recently ran at the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The GT3 Cup car currently being campaigned in Carrera Cup GB will also be driven up the hill by current Porsche Junior and current championship leader Dan Harper.

Another Porsche world premiere takes place at FoS this year with the first public appearance of the new 718 Cayman GT4, but this coveted car will be vying for attention with the GT2-derived 935 and all-electric Taycan, both of which are making their dynamic UK debuts this weekend.

There will also be a chance to see the production 911 Speedster and Cayenne Coupé for the first time, and the opportunity to ride out in Porsche’s established SUVS at the Porsche Experience Centre Goodwood.

Whatever you do, make sure you pop down to the Club display on stand 501 this year, for a coffee and a catch up. We’ll be there on all four days to keep you posted on everything Porsche at Goodwood and to offer you some essential rest and recuperation. We hope to see you there.
