Day one of the 2019 Autosport International at the NEC in Birmingham is drawing to a close with the Porsche Club stand home to an exciting display of racing and race inspired Porsches.

Pride of place and a real crowd-pleaser on the Porsche Club GB stand is a genuine Sunoco Porsche 917-30, one of the most powerful race cars to have ever existed, capable of producing as much as 1,500 BHP.

Appropriately positioned adjacent to the 917/30 is Porsche Centre Glasgow’s entry into the Restoracing series, a 986 Boxster S finished in the same hues of blue, yellow and red used by the Sunoco-sponsored Penske team.

Far less powerful than the Can-AM monster but just as impressive is Sam Tordoff’s 1954 pre-A 356, which Sam piloted to a second place finish at the 2018 Goodwood Revival after stalling on the grid and having to fight his way through the entire field! Thankfully it was all captured with on-board cameras so you can enjoy the footage yourself here.

As is tradition, the Club’s display features the previous season's Porsche Club Championship winning car, in this instance Mark Sumpter’s 996 C2. The 2018 title fight went all the way to the last race, where Mark Sumpter, a seven-time winner this season, claimed his second overall championship, along with the Class 1 crown.

Representing the Club’s trackday activities is the stunning 987 Cayman R owned by Richard Tipper of ‘Perfection Valet’ fame. A faster, leaner, more track-focussed model the the R shed 55kg and gained ten extra horsepower from the Cayman S, producing 330 hp from a 3.4-litre six-cylinder engine.

Porsche’s stand saw the UK debut over the 935 (type 991.2) complete in the historic Martini livery. Billed as 70th birthday present from Porsche Motorsport to fans all over the world, this spectacular model features a body reminiscent of the legendary 935/78.

We’ve seen lots of familiar faces on the stand today and welcomed a number of new members to the Club already. If you’re interested in making the leap into grass roots motorsport, or even just want to know more about trackday opportunities for you and your Porsche, our team are on hand to help all weekend. The show runs from 9am to 6pm, so come and find us in Hall 4 for a complimentary coffee and a chat.
