Regal racers from Porsche’s sporting past are assembling in Sussex

It’s the 76th Goodwood Members’ Meeting this weekend, and once again it promises to be a standout year for Porsche.

Confirmed for the exclusive two-day event are no fewer than eight 904s, the game-changing GRP coupes that reaffirmed Porsche’s focus on sports car racing in the early Sixties.

Alongside them is expected to be the largest gathering of 935s ever seen since they raced in in Group 5, bolstered by the presence of the Porsche Museum’s own 935/78 – the fearsome, 800bhp, low-drag Moby Dick.

Porsche will also be fielding the 924 GTP – the only works Porsche to have competed in Union flag livery – and has invited British Le Mans legend Richard Attwood to drive it. This will be the first time the GTP as raced in anger since its fastidious restoration by regional Porsche centres in 2016 to celebrate 40 years of the 924.

Moby Dick, meanwhile, will lap the historic Sussex circuit in the veteran hands of Germany’s Jochen Mass, who raced it in period, and Porsche GB Junior Dan Harper, who by stark contrast, has only had a driving license since late last year.

The Club will bring you all the highlights from what – weather permitting – will be a spectacular weekend for historic Porsche motorsport in the UK.
