The Le Mans-winning 919 Hybrid, wearing a layer of grime and race number two, will lead the Porsche presence at Goodwood Festival of Speed starting later this week.
The 919 Hybrid, fresh from recording the 19th overall victory at the Le Mans 24 Hours for the Stuttgart marque, will be driven up the 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill by 2015 Le Mans winner and current LMP1 driver Nick Tandy. The Porsche Team race driver from Bedfordshire will be joined over the weekend by two of his team-mates from this year’s race; Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley – who, along with Earl Bamber, scored that remarkable win in France.
Fittingly, the racing ancestors of the 919 Hybrid will join it in taking on the Goodwood Hill – including the incredible Can-Am 917/30, the WSC 95, a 1983 956 C and the 935 ‘Moby Dick’ from 1978. Drivers of the cars will include Walter Röhrl, 1970 Le Mans winner Richard Attwood, the aforementioned current Porsche Team drivers, Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup racers Tom Sharp, Paul Rees and Josh Webster plus Porsche Carrera Cup GB competitors Dino Zamparelli, Ross Wylie and Peter Kyle-Henney
Returning to Goodwood is Porsche Carrera Cup Great GB 2016/17 scholar and 2016 Rookie champion Charlie Eastwood, who recorded a phenomenal fifth fastest time up the Goodwood Hill last year, despite never having been to the Festival of Speed previously. This year Charlie will be driving the new, Generation Two 911 GT3 Cup.
Away from the racing world, the fiercest Porsche roads cars will be in action. In 2016, Supercup driver and Carrera Cup GB race winner Paul Rees set a blistering time in the wet on the Goodwood Hill behind the wheel of a 911 Turbo S. Paul is back this year, sharing driving duties with Porsche Carrera Cup GB front runner Dino Zamparelli with the new 911 Turbo S Exclusive Edition – seen in action for the first time at Goodwood. Also making its Goodwood debut will be the 911 GT3, which will be driven by its creator – Andreas Preuninger.
Making UK debuts are a pair of new Panameras – led by the Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo and the phenomenal, 680 hp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, which, like the 919 Hybrid LMP1 race car, uses electric power to boost its performance.
The debuts don’t end there - a surprise new entrant at the Festival of Speed which will make its first public appearance on the Goodwood Hill on Saturday morning.
Off the beaten track (and off-road) the Porsche Cayenne will once again be giving visitors to the Festival of Speed thrilling experiences on a special all-terrain course at the main Porsche stand, where an array of Porsche cars both old and new will be on display.
