Oulton Park on Saturday July 9th hosts the mid-point of the 2022 Petro-Canada Lubricants and Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli and Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup seasons, the latter joined for their two races by the 911 Challenge field.
With battles for class and overall honours already well underway and every point now precious for the two series with championship points at stake, Saturday’s races provide ample opportunity for every driver to add to his points haul or victory tally, so the action should be exciting and up the usual Porsche high standard!

Petro-Canada Lubricants and Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli
Pete Morris heads the class one points in his 997 C2S and has two wins from the six race so far, and the former double-champion is always a front-runner. The fast-starting Kevin Harrison sits in second, having taken a win at Brands Hatch in April and two podium finishes at Snetterton, and again will be a factor in is County Classics 996 C2.
Sitting just one point behind Harrison is James Caley who has taken four podium finishes but is yet to take a win, another out in a 997 C2S, the most powerful Porsche in the series but also with the highest minimum weight. Newcomer Neil Delargy is fourth, quickly adapting to the championship and now overdue a podium finish.
Next up are Bill Caley and Simon Clark, tied on points in fifth, and it is Clark who will be one to watch having taken both wins at Snetterton three weeks ago having missed the Brands Hatch races. A winner at Oulton Park last year and former champion, Clark has adapted quickly to his new 996 and is looking to claw back the points deficit, while Bill Caley will also be quick, in the Cayman S Clark used to such good effect prior to this season. Making a welcome return to Porsche Club action is 2021 champion Matt Kyle-Henney, moving into class one for the first time.
Class B is the domain of the Boxster S and has been a battle so far between the evenly matched James Coleman and Colin Tester. Having taken first and second places in every race to date between them, Coleman holds a slight advantage thanks to more poles and fastest laps and their ongoing duel will be a highlight today.
The lead pair in the class haven’t had it easy in races with Angus Archer and Paul Simpson right with them and taking podium finishes, as well as series newcomer Andrew Porter who is fourth in the points and claimed a third at Brands Hatch.
Two local racers are in action, with Carl Hazelton from Chester out in his Boxster, while worth watching will be the return of 2021 Boxster Cup champion Richard Forber. Hampered by new car issues so far this season, Forber was a revelation in his rookie year last season and should be quickly on the pace as he gets used to racing on slicks.

Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge
The Porsche Club Motorsport Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge fields to provide two close and exciting races. The Boxster Cup runners are chasing their own championship, while the 911 Challenge is a home for any air-cooled Porsche and we have seen some classic models in race action in the series.
The Boxster Cup sees the field out in similar cars and on treaded Pirelli tyres and has featured some great racing so far this season with five different winners in the first five races – all drivers taking their maiden race wins. Mike Thompson heads the points and took his first win at Snetterton last time out and has only once finished off the podium in a season where he has been the most consistent points scorer.
Pete Evans heads the chase and is the only driver with two 2022 wins on his record, and also has been a force in qualifying taking the first four poles of the season. Darren King had his first race outing at the Donington Park season opener, and led both races, but had to wait until round three at Brands Hatch to take his maiden win in a shortened race and sits third in the points.
The opening races of the season were dramatic with numerous lead changes, and Darren Labbett won the season opener still with his novice cross on the back of his car, while series regular Stephen Shore took his debut win later in the day. Vikram Sudera has twice taken fastest laps so has ample pace but is out in a new car having destroyed his original mount in a race-stopping shunt at Brands Hatch.
Taking both poles last time out at Snetterton was Sarah Thomson in her distinctive yellow and red Boxster, and she will be keen to convert her one lap pace into a strong race performance. Sarah is not our only lady racer, as Faye Noble-Evans, wife of race winner Pete Evans, has also been gaining pace in her first season and it is possible the first podium finish for either of the pair is not far away.
The 911 Challenge is a series of races with no overall championship and has seen a wide variety of Porsche models take to the track including some true classics such as the potent RSRs from the 1970s. The make-up of the grid varies race by race but invariably features some rapid and well-sorted cars in the hands of some very quick drivers.
The Boxster Cup and 911 Challenge fields at 09.45 and then race at 12.40 and 16.35, while the Porsche Club Championship cars qualify at 10.45, then line up on the grid for the popular lunchtime grid walk allowing race fans a close look at the cars as part of the circuit's Supercar Pageant day, before racing at 14.30 and 17.15.
