It will be races five and six of the 2021 Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli and Porsche Classic Boxster Cup at Snetterton on Saturday, 5 June and already the title battles are heating up in both series. The two 25-minute races offer ample opportunity for points scoring, and Snetterton is a circuit that always sees the Porsches on fine racing form.
Mark McAleer heads both the class one points and the Porsche Club Championship overall after four races, taking two wins in the season opener at Donington Park, and the former double champion won at Snetterton last year so will be on the pace in his 997 C2S. McAleer hasn’t had it all his own way, reigning champion Simon Clark striking back at Brands Hatch last month with two wins of his own in his Cayman S, and he claimed two podiums here last year.
Clark’s second win came in a race that was stopped early and he took the victory by the tightest possible margin from former champion Pete Morris, who will be keen for revenge. Another to watch for in class one is local racer James Caley, who took his maiden victory at Snetterton last season in just his second season of racing, his 997 holding on for the win after huge pressure from behind in the final laps.
Class two has offered up some superb racing this season, and while Matt Kyle-Henney leads the points, in the first four races it has been tight between his distinctive Boxster and the cars of Kevin Molyneux and series newcomer Rick Styrin. The class lead battle will be a highlight of the race, and at Brands Hatch last time out it became a four-car lead dice as reigning Boxster Cup champion Paul Simpson found the pace on slick tyres to announce his arrival as a front runner.
A welcome returnee to the class is Toby Barlow, another racer local to the circuit and a winner at Snetterton back in 2019. The class is dominated by Boxsters, and with drivers such as Andy Muggeridge, Andy Baker and Bill Caley – son of class one’s James Caley – chasing points, will provide some great action.
Will Heslop has been the man to beat in the Porsche Classic Boxster Cup, winning all four races to date in his distinctive retro-liveried Porsche Centre Wolverhampton Boxster S. Alistair Nelson sits second in the points from Mike Thompson and they have been podium regulars, while fourth is newcomer Richard Forber, who made his race debut at Donington at the start of the season and has rapidly gained pace, claiming a second place at Brands Hatch last time out.
