Mather takes FTD at Goodwood

Damp weather slows drivers at historic Goodwood

The seventh round of the Porsche Club Speed and Hillclimb Championship marked a return to rainy weather after the heat of Castle Combe. Holidays and other absences depleted numbers a little with just 10 competitors at the historic and fast Goodwood Circuit for the Brighton and Hove Motor Club Eagle Sprint.

A damp start to the day meant the single practice session was driven cautiously as the drivers tested the conditions. Just one driver entered Class 5 at Goodwood with Stephen Jory (944) characteristically putting in times that would sit well in Class 4. Stephen put a time of 98.94 in during the drier first run.

Most drivers at Goodwood ran in Class 4 with seven entrants battling the inclement weather. Andy Fagan (Boxster S) put in a time of 98.28 for third place, practically a full second behind Graham Rose (924S with 968 engine) whose first timed run earned him second place in 97.29. Taking the class win and an impressive championship FTD at Goodwood was Justin Mather (Supercharged 924S) with a fastest run of 96.99.

Two drivers made up Class 3 at Goodwood with David Watson (Cayman S) up against worsening conditions to finish the day in second place with 110.82. Despite provoking the ire of the local council’s noise monitors at Goodwood with his noisy Supercharged, 968-engined 944 still put in a great time of 98.08.
