Class Wins to Turnbull and Ayres at Shelsley Walsh

Porsche Club National Hillclimb Championship Round 3 - Shelsley Walsh

Unusually, and for the first time this year, our Hillclimb round at Shelsley Walsh was a one day affair, rather than the usual weekend event. Still, the weather was kind and the hill was in perfect condition.

Unfortunately due to a technical issue Paul Howells ran out of batch order and caught  a damp track and although driving like a demon, couldn’t quite match Peter Turnbull driving his 997 Cup car. Paul finishing up on a 32.50 to finish second and Peter taking the Modified Production  class win with a 32.24.

In the Road going class the times were really tight. The ever improving Richard York setting personal best times all through the day to finish on a best of 36.24 for 5th place. Simon Tarling has also been improving his times this season,  especially at Loton Park, but could not find the extra time needed at Shelsley and ended the day on a 35.30 with his first run for 4th place.

The battle for the win was incredibly close, with Christian Ayres, out for the first time this season in his 991 GT3 RS, David Dyson, 991 GT3 and Robert Lancaster-Gaye 996 GT3, all within 3 tenths of a second of one another. As it turned out both Christian and Robert set their best time on their first run. Only David improving on the second, but it just wasn’t  quite enough to beat Christian's winning time of 32.41  David, so close with a  best of 32.49 for second and Robert 3rd on 32.69. Phew !!

So, it was a great day with great company and looking forward now to the Porsche extravaganza at Prescott, so make a note in your diaries for the 22nd / 23rd June.
