With the 2019 Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship with Pirelli ready to blast into life at Donington Park on April 20th, the strength and popularity of the series is shown in the first entries for the new season – not only two double champions returning, but also their sons signed up for the year! Pete Morris and Mark McAleer are the champions, and either of them is line to be the first triple champion in Porsche Club Championship history.
First to commit for 2019 was Morris, class one and overall champion in 2014 and 2015, competing in the race-winning Porsche 997 C2S he used last year, the first season the model has been eligible for the series. Son Ross is entered in class two in a Boxster S, where he has raced before, both being run by the Strasse team from Leeds.
“I’m in the 997 again, we are doing some work on it over the winter and I’m looking forward to going racing,” said Pete. “We’ve bought a Boxster for Ross, a car that has gone well in the championship before in the hands of Gary Duckman, and he should go well, he is laid-back about his racing but that be quite a good attitude!
“I started in sprints and hillclimbs with the Porsche Club, moved into the Porsche Club Championship, then did some GT and endurance racing before coming back. I love the series, it is good racing, everyone gets on, and that is why I have Ross racing with me in it, running two cars isn’t cheap but he can be quick in the Boxster.”
Next in line after Pete and Ross Morris to sign up were Mark and Jake McAleer. Mark followed up his 2007 title with the 2017 crown racing a 996 C2, Jake taking the class two title that year in a family first for the series.
For the new season Mark McAleer is staying in class one but driving a new 997 C2S, the most powerful car in the series but also the heaviest, the various Porsche models balanced by power-to-weight ratio. Stepping into the 996 his father used in 2017 and was winning races with last season is son Jake, the first time the duo will have raced in the same class in the championship.
The 2019 Petro-Canada Lubricants Porsche Club Championship season features 14-races at seven meetings, each 25-minutes long. The race action starts and ends at Donington Park, the final races at the East Midlands circuit on September 28th.
