The Porsche Club Speed Championship last visited Three Sisters Circuit in 2004. Following recent work to enhance the look and feel of the circuit we were invited back by Longton and District Motor Club and this visit formed the penultimate round of our championship. Holidays being taken and some drivers being put off by the circuit’s primary status as a karting venue meant that numbers were relatively low with just seven drivers competing.
Lancashire’s well-earned reputation for rain may also have been a factor, of course, (nearby Preston is England’s wettest city, for instance) and the day was a mix of cool weather and showers – with the heaviest showers falling just as the driver’s lined up for their timed runs.
Class P4 at Three Sisters was made up of Martin Leach and Stephen Jory. Martin clearly enjoyed this round and his narrow-bodied 911 looked at home on the tight corners at this circuit. As per all the Porsche drivers at Three Sisters, his fastest round was the first and driest timed run and he finished in 88.16 for second place. Driving his 2.5 litre 944, Stephen bettered Martin’s time by just under four seconds to finish in 84.31 for first place.
Despite inadvertently taking a short cut across one of the long curves on his practice run, Tom Fisher (Boxster S) steeled himself for a much better run next time out and finished in third place in Class P3 in 86.05. Geraint Evans had a good first timed run with his 911 Carrera 3 and took second place in 83.72. Improving on that with a margin of 3.17 seconds was Justin Mather (supercharged 924S) who put in a fantastic 80.55 seconds for first in P3.
Andy Fagan (slick-shod Boxster S) ran as sole entry in Class P2 at Three Sisters. His superb first timed run earned him Fastest Porsche on the Day in 80.46 – no mean feat on such a damp and unfamiliar circuit.
Peter Taylor is a very busy man as he is entered in no less than three championships this season, including running an MX5 at Three Sisters alongside his 718S in Class P1 in the Speed Championship. It’s not clear if jumping between these cars helped or hindered his driving but he finished the day with an excellent time of 82.03.
