Fagan leads Speed Championship following Castle Combe Sprint

Speed Championship Round 8 – Castle Combe

The Castle Combe Dick Mayo Sprint was a late venue on the calendar to replace the cancelled Croft Circuit event. Unfortunately, because the meeting was so heavily subscribed a number of the Porsche Club Speed Championship competitors failed to get an entry. Ten competitors lined up for this round and the event consisted of 1 practice run and 3 timed runs. The weather was cloudy but warm and dry.

Only 1 competitor was entered in class P1. But it didn’t stop Peter Taylor pushing his Porsche Boxster to the limit. Peter setting a best time of 65.64 seconds and getting fastest Porsche of the day.

With two competitors in class P2. Andy Fagan took the 2nd spot in a Porsche Boxster 3.2S with a time of 67.44 seconds. Worthy winner this time setting consistently fast times was an ‘on form’ Karl Lupton in a supercharged Porsche 924 3.0L with a time of 66.53 seconds and 2nd Porsche overall.

There was a full class of 5 competitors in class P3. Ian Wadsworth finished in 3rd place and under 70 seconds with a time of 69.77 seconds. In second place was the ever improving Nick Wadsworth in a Porsche 911 SC/RS and a time of 67.66 seconds. Winning the class once again and by just 0.29 seconds, but looking good for the overall championship was Justin Mather in his supercharged Porsche 924S 2.7L and a time of 67.37 seconds.

Stephen Jory was the only class 4 competitor but it didn’t stop him trying hard. Too hard at times with a huge spin in his Porsche 944 3.0L at Avon rise but luckily didn’t hit anything and carried on. Stephen set his best time on his 2nd timed run of 69.88 seconds to take the class win.

The next round is next weekend at Goodwood Circuit on Saturday 3rd August. See you there!
