Who are you using for classic insurance?

I have been with Classicline for years but my latest renewal quote is £485 up from £260.

They said it was because of a change where cars valued at over £50k now need to be parked inside at night when at the home address.

I tend to leave it outside as my driveway is out of sight of passers by so it is pretty secure.

Has anyone else had the same experience and can recommend another broker ?

Cheers
Richard

I found footman james the cheapest, Manning are a broker and I've also used them and use them currently. I keep mine garaged though so not sure on ungaraged costs. At my latest renewal though manning did said my policy only covers me for theft at home while the car is garaged.

Is is true that you dont earn NCB on "classic" insurance policies (eg those with limited mileage, agreed value etc)

Yes I have been told that by 2 classic insurers that it isn't impacted by no claims and you don't accrue no claims.

Certainly that’s the case with my ClassicLine policy Clive, on which I have limited mileage and an agreed value. My policy has always required me to garage the car overnight when at my home address and I’m surprised that wasn’t the case with Richard’s ClassicLine policy too.

I asked them for a quote if garaged and it is £350, still £100 more than last year so their argument that the premium has gone up because of the garage stipulation is not the only reason.

Car insurance quotes have shot up this year owing to the very steep rise in vehicle repair costs due to increased energy, labour, parts and paint costs. According to this BBC news item, as of the end of June the average car insurance premium was £511, 21% higher than this time last year.??

So far Footman James is £299 - garaged
Lockton, £450 - difference between garage or on drive at night was £12
Porsche's own £480 - garaged

I don't want to spend too much on insurance as I hardly use it, last year I only did about 100 miles and I can't see me using it until the spring now.
Car value £75k, live in Bucks and I have a clean license and no accidents, a model citizen in fact[:D]

don't want to spend too much on insurance as I hardly use it, last year - eek!

might not be the sensible choice for a valuable car that is potentially increasing in value.

It is often said you only know the true value of the cost of insurance when you claim...

If you’re not using the car for so long I assume that you’re putting it on SORN? Have you enquired with ClassicLine about lay-up insurance for that period, where the policy will be fire and theft only?

You leave a valuable car outside throughout the winter rather than put it under cover, assuming a garage is available???

Jeff

I know it might be a bit of a cliché as the club's preferred insurers, but Lockton have been excellent value, great cover and easy to deal with.
I've no hesitation in recommending them.

Sorry, yes I mean Lockton was £450.

The car when I am not using it lives under a cover in a barn and it pretty secure. Maybe I should do an off road policy for now and then change it to road use next year.
I do have off road policy's on a couple of my other car already.
