Member's Car of the Month

This month's car belongs to Tony Riches

They had this to say about the car -

'Car was purchased new in 2014 from OPC Glasgow, which might explain the colour (the OPC had a reputation for paint to sample cars at the time and there's even a thread with examples on PH). After five owners I bought it from Brookspeed in Hampshire as 'Miami Blue', and it was only when I had a proper look at it later that same day that I realised that it wasn't Miami, but the infinitely harder to find Olympic Blue, a original Ford colour that graced 70s Escorts and of course the Porsche 914 of that era. To be fair the 'Olympic Blue' written on the front of the service book was a clue. Initial disappointment turned to delight when I realised that it's not only rare but really eye catching too. Seems as if OPC Glasgow had a bit of a thing going on with PTS at the time, since Olympic is reputed to have been a very difficult colour to get out of Porsche for a good while (whereas all you have to do now is pay and accept a non-Ford offending 'Olympus' colour tag, it seems, but at the time some sweet talking and strong ordering record might have been needed to source such a heritage colour).

The spec as purchased was: PDK, heated seats, 20 inch Carrera wheels, roll-over bar with exterior colour paint finish, wind deflector, top tinted windscreen, smoking package, bi-xenon headlights incl. Porsche Dynamic Light System (PDLS), mobile phone preparation, ParkAssist (front and rear), code for exterior colour to sample, floor mats, multifunction steering wheel, leather, black model designation on doors, audio package CDR Plus, wheels painted in Black, sports tailpipe. So quite a well specced car, although manual would be more interesting it has to be said that the PDK box is excellent, and the only thing I'd change would be the steering wheel (to the sports wheel with the paddles) if I could face spending £2k on a non-essential. What I did spend on post purchase was a front end protective film and all over ceramic coating from Jules Sturgess in Duxford and a Sony XAV-AX100 head unit with rear camera to give me the invaluable option of CarPlay, although I'd go back to a Porsche unit if I could source one with that option.

The car had 29k on the clock on purchase, and is now in the mid thirties after a jaunt around Europe (Jura, Alps, Italian Lakes, Côte d'Azur and home) throughout which it performed flawlessly, and it's now such a favourite that it'll be in my garage until I can no longer climb in and out of it! Having owned my fair share of fun metal (seven Corvettes, two 911s, two Boxsters, a Mazzer GranTurismo, TT-RS, AMG SL63, etc), I have to say that 'only 265 horses' is more than enough when coupled to the insane wow factor of that paint colour. Happy days...'
