The 2008 PCGB Le Mans 24 Hours – June 9th to June 16th
2008 may just be a special year in the PCGB’s attendance at Le Mans and the Club will once again have a significant presence at Virage Porsche next June when the 76th Le Mans 24 hours takes place.
The Campsite at Porsche Curves facilitates some 400 members, friends and families and their Porsche Cars and tenting equipment.
Last year’s unusually rain-soaked camping experience generally tested each and every camper but the facilities offered to the PCGB campers made what was a difficult time for others into a much more tolerable time for our members such are the facilities on offer.
Within the secure and marshalled site the Club provides on-site exclusive showers and toilets, full catering facilities available throughout the week long attendance and a great BBQ and Firework Display on Friday night. The location of the campsite is literally right next door to the circuit (see picture) with great viewing potential from the banking at this famous part of the track. The attendance of the Club’s Race Centre and large canopy ensures that we have both undercover facilities for both rain and shine, and with a 50” plasma screen broadcasting the race it’s a great place to soak-up all the atmosphere of the Worlds Greatest Motor Race.
Further and with enthusiasm I understand the LMP2 “Porsche Spyder” prototype will attend the 2008 24 hours probably in the hands of privateer teams such as Dyson Racing with I am sure full factory support.
It will have been 10 years exactly since Porsche both last attended and last won an outright victory at Le Mans (with a real challenge on Victory) and I am sure the intention will be “To Win” an overall victory at Le Sarthe in 2008.
I, like many have been waiting a long time for Porsche to once again “go racing” and this will make for exciting attendance and racing in 08 and I will be looking for some way forward with Porsche for those members who are staying with us during the lead-up to the Race to get some member privileges.
It would be great to get access to the Pit Lane Garages (as we did with P.K Motorsport) and get up-close to the factory supported teams. The petit Le Mans in the USA has seen the Penske Porsche Spyder take outright victory from the Audi’s (diesel) 6 times from 8 races so there is huge potential for a David and Goliath challenge next year!
