Experience a Glider Flight in Hampshire - Sunday 2nd August 2009
Come with us for an afternoon & evening with a real difference.
On Sunday 2nd August we will be visiting the national gliding centre, Lasham Gliding Society, located in deepest Hampshire, just south of M3 junction 6, on the A339 just after the village of Herriard. Postcode GU34 5SS. The Society has a clubhouse next to the take-off and landing strip, with a small restaurant and comfortable bar, both with outside tables if the weather is warm.
We will travel in convoy from the Fairmile, leaving promptly on Sunday afternoon at 15.15 to arrive at Lasham by 16.30. Tea and cakes will be available in the airfield restaurant and flights should commence around 17.30 and last until just before dusk. Those flying can usually muck-in and assist the ground movements of the gliders, pushing them into position for the next flight.
Each flight will actually be a gliding lesson. It will start with a tow behind an aeroplane (called a tug) up to a height of 2,500 feet. Your instructor will be in control so this will be your opportunity to enjoy the view to the Isle of Wight on a good day or look down on the picturesque Hampshire countryside. When the tow is released you will have the opportunity to try your hand at the controls, under the instructors expert supervision of course. Each glider flight will typically last between ten and fifteen minutes. Take-off and landing will usually be on grass. Subject to availability on the day, additional winch or aerotow launches may be purchased at Club rates at any time during your 3 month trial membership that is included in the price.
The evening glider flight will cost just £45.00 per person at the group rate, payable in advance, (instead of the usual £80.00). Places are limited to a maximum of 20 people wishing to fly. First come first served. Non-flyers can come as well. Cheques should be made payable to "Lasham Gliding Society" and sent to Mandy as soon as possible.
