Charities

Porsche Club GB has a long history of supporting charities, raising funds for good causes at both a national level and as local initiatives.

When the Club as a whole decides to support a charity, the decision is made by the Board, usually after discussions with Regional Organisers and Register Secretaries; in fact, many such whole-Club commitments derive originally from local contacts. Once the decision has been made then, for a period of time, the Club commits to working with the chosen charity to raise funds at major events and so on, perhaps for a year or more.

In the past, ways of doing that have included prize draws and raffles at Christmas, or in association with the Club’s National event, as well as other events specifically organised to help the charity. It is usual for the Club’s other sponsors to back the efforts too, often donating prizes or providing opportunities for members.

Over the years, charities supported have ranged from MacMillan Cancer Care to the National Autistic Society. ‘The MacMillan Mile’ was organised in association with Silverstone, when members were sponsored to create a mile of Porsches on the famous Grand Prix circuit. Despite the foulest weather imaginable, they did it in style. At Brands Hatch, a prize draw in association with the Porsche Club Festival generated funds for autistic children. But in recent years, the focus has returned to local worthy causes and Porsche Post carries regular reports of Regions raising money, for example, for local air ambulances and children’s charities. In particular, children’s hospices and day care centres around the country have been supported by members giving opportunities to deprived and terminally ill youngsters.
